History
Reverend John W. Haynes Founder
THE HISTORIC MOTOR CITY MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH
On Palm Sunday, March 19, 1967, its founding Pastor, the late Reverend John W. Haynes, in the basement of his home, formed Motor City Mission. After many blessings from God, in 1969, this mission moved to 5100 30th Street, and was organized as Motor City Missionary Baptist Church.
Many souls were added to the church. Due to this growth, in 1978 the church moved into its current facility, the former Gethsemane Lutheran Church, which was erected in 1891.
As part of the growth of our church, God spoke to Reverend Haynes and gave him a vision to bring in another church. On the first Sunday in September, 1993, both Motor city and Bible Baptist Church (Pastored by Reverend Johnny Lowe) agreed to merge into one church, naming Pastor Lowe as the co-Pastor.
On July 8, 2002, Motor City suffered the devastating loss of its founding Pastor, the late Reverend John W. Haynes, after 35 years of service. But by the wisdom of God, he left us Reverend Lowe, who immediately moved into leading the church and was installed as our Pastor on March 2, 2003.
As we continue to move forward, our church is growing by the new vision God has for us, “Growing the Church by Kingdom Building.” Continue to pray for us, as we become the church God wants us to be.
